HONOURABLE MINISTER OF STATE FOR HEALTH, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, GRACED UIPSA's WEEK.

The sessional Distinguished Personality Lecture(DPL) usually organized by the University of Ibadan Physiology Students' Association (UIPSA), was this time around an outstanding success. It was one of its kind and the best so far in the history of Physiology weeks. 

The event which held on Friday 8th of October, 2021, at the Preclinical Lecture Theatre (PLT), Department of Physiology; hosted as its guest speaker- Hon. Minister of State for Health, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Olorunnimbe Mamora, on the topic *"The Battle against Corona Virus in Nigeria: Achievements, Challenges and Prospects"*. This was after a courtesy call on the acting Vice-Chancellor had taken place in the Tekena Tamuno Building.

The event was honoured by the Hon. Minister of State for Health, alongside his age long friends and fellow political icons from different walks of life such as Dr Leke Taiwo, Prof. Ayo Olukotun (a veteran political analyst), Prof Toyin Ashiru (Director FCMB), Dr David Atuwo, MNI (Senior Technical Assistant to The Hon. Minister), Dr Adedamola Dada (Medical Director, Federal Medical Lagos).

The event also had Prof. Isaac F. Adewole (Former Minister of Health in Nigeria and Former VC UI) as the Chairman,

Prof. A.R.A Alada (Veteran Professor of Physiology and former Dean of Students, UI) as the Chief Host and Mr Oladejo (Director of Public Communications, UI) as the Anchor.

Other invited guests to grace the lecture were

Dr Abiodun Adeoye (a representative of the CMD, UCH)

Dr Azeez Adedokun (The Oosi Basorun of Ibadan land)

The President of the Students' Union, University of Ibadan- Mr Olusegun Akeju

The AGS of Students' Union, University of Ibadan- Mr Mustapha Oluwakayode

The President, Federation of Ibadan Students' Union UI chapter- Aare Popoola Zainab

The immediate past President of University of Ibadan Physiology Students' Association (UIPSA), Mr Adesogan Joshua. 

Also, Professors, Doctors, Deans representatives, students from invited departments and faculties and also Academic and Non-academic members of staff of the Department of Physiology were not left out of the occasion.

Correspondences from the Tribune Newspaper, Punch Newspaper and Diamond fm were present as well to pen down the event.

The Distinguished Personality Lecture commenced with a Welcome Address given by the President of UIPSA, Miss Success Oluwanifesimi Olugbuyiro, where she expressed her heart full of gratitude to God and appreciation towards the distinguished personalities and invited guests on seat, for taking time out of their busy schedules to physically honour the invitation. 

Afterwards, the citation of the guest speaker Hon. Minister of State for Health, Dr Olorunnmibe Mamora, was delivered by a Uipsaite- Ofomah Ikechukwu .

Dr Olorunnimbe Mamora began his lecture by first congratulating the President of UIPSA alongside her committee members for a beautiful job well-done. He spoke extensively on the challenges, achievements and prospects of Corona Virus in Nigeria as well as the strategies  set up in place of future pandemics. He emphasized the need for students to go into medical research and development, adopting an early diagnostic method and prompt treatment in tackling the dreaded pandemic. He however, added that the pandemic is not over yet but we will continue to learn with lessons.

He stated that as physiologists, we have pivotal roles to play in Nigeria Healthcare System. Meanwhile, after hours of his intellectual and impacting lectures, questions and answers were entertained for more enlightenment on the said topic.

Afterwards, an award of honour from the association was presented to the Hon. Minister of State for Health by Prof. A.R.A Alada for his selfless contribution in making the lecture a memorable one.

Finally, the event was brought to an end with the UI and National Anthems after the closing remarks by Dr Abiodun Adeoye.
