Guide for ERT course content design and facilitation


WEEKLY CONTACT- ASYNCHRONOUS
For each weekly contact you could prepare the following:

a. Your notes (.doc or.pdf) uploaded for the students to READ and REVIEW,
b. Other online resources (e.g webpages, documents, pdf links) for the students to READ and REVIEW
c. Your Voice over PowerPoint slides for the students to listen to READ and REVIEW or
d. Screencast videos of  yourself teaching the content for the students to listen to  and REVIEW or
e. Audio recording of yourself teaching the class for the students to listen to and REVIEW
f. Online videos (sourced from Youtube or other sites/ other Universities OERs e.g MIT, OER AFRICA etc) to REVIEW
g. Questions for students to RESPOND to as they read and review, so learning would be effective

WEEKLY CONTACT- SYNCHRONOUS
FOR  3 or 4 Unit courses

h. 30 Minutes - One hour face to face synchronous class with the students to REFLECT on a-e above through Zoom. (Each Faculty to present their timetable to ITEMS to schedule zoom meetings)


FOR 2  or 1 unit courses
h. 20- 30minutes face to face synchronous class (or one hour every fortnight) with the students to REFLECT on a-e above through Zoom. (Each Faculty to present their timetable to ITEMS to schedule zoom meetings)

i. Faculties to use their existing timetable to schedule the Zoom based face to face sessions, so there would not be clashes. The asynchronous session could be during the other lecture hours.

OTHER INTERACTIONS WITH STUDENTS
Follow up discussions with Q&A could occur -

j. on WhatsApp/telegram apps. Note that using voice notes on these apps consume lesser data and are as effective. So , it is encouraged.
k. Through various tools on the LMS platform (forums, journals, wikis blogs)

ASSIGNMENTS
l. Assignments to be submitted through dedicated email for each course (ITEMS has created this) or
m. It could also be conducted through the various tools on LMS platform (quizzes, assignment……)

ATTENDANCE 
n. Attendance could be taken through submissions on tasks and activities for the asynchronous sessions.
That is why there should be ample assignments and quizzes given to the students with deadlines and possibly rubrics for guidance.
