FG indefinitely bans UI governing council from holding meetings


The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the indefinite suspension of all meetings of the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan.

This was conveyed in a letter signed on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry, Mr. Sonny Echono and sent to the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission.

If we recall that following multiple allegations of malpractices, the selection process for the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor of the University was suspended in November last year.



The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Babatunde Ekanola was subsequently elected in acting capacity for the next six months.

Meanwhile, it is not sure if the tenure of the acting VC would be prolonged after it expires by April.

NOTE : This ban does not prevent the Senate of the school from sitting on decision of Students result and resumption of academic activities,it only pauses any VC selection activities.
