RESUMPTION: UI to adopt 50% maximum population capacity rule in classrooms, laboratories


The Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Ibadan  chapter has said they will adopt the 50% maximum population capacity rule for indoor meetings, workshops, classrooms, etc to ensure compliance with the Federal Government's COVID 19 guidelines for Schools.

RESOLUTION OF ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES, UNIVERSITY OF 
IBADAN BRANCH AT THE CONGRESS HELD ON 15 JANUARY, 2021 AT THE LARGE 
LECTURE THEATER FACULTY OF ARTS, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN

The Congress of ASUU, UI Branch held on the 15th January, 2021 at the Large Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan to deliberate on the reopening of the University of Ibadan for academic activities and the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. 

The Congress discussed the issues exhaustively recognizing the need to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all members of the University community including members of ASUU-UI, students, residents on and visitors to campus. 

Congress resolved as follows:

1. The University Administration should provide funds and make adequate resources available to members to facilitate virtual learning.

2. The University Administration should safeguard lives of all staff, and students and visitors by adhering strictly to the extant safety protocols and the guidelines of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on COVID - 19.

3. The 50% maximum population capacity rule should be enforced on campus in indoor public areas (including all non-private offices, classrooms, teaching and research laboratories/ workshops, lobbies, restrooms, common spaces in buildings, conference rooms, and coffee/tea rooms) 

.ASUU-UI members, while on duty shall refrain from such areas on campus where this rule is violated.

4. The Union expects the University administration to make hand washing and sanitizing stations available in common areas so that visitors can wash their hands before entering office space where members of staff work. 

Members of ASUU-UI shall refrain from 
duty in places on campus where such is absent. 

5. When physical meetings are necessary, the Union expects that such meetings shall be in well-ventilated spaces and chairs spaced at least six feet apart. This also applies to classrooms, teaching and research laboratories/ workshops.
